The "Afrikadag'' is an annual event with over 1200 attendees, 150 speakers from both the Netherlands and abroad, as well as around 100 volunteers, whom together with the FMS team make the Afrikadag a great success! Next to a broad arts and culture programme, the event hosts numerous political debates, workshops and speeches in which visitors can connect with politicians, professionals and each other. Since 2012, we also organise an afterparty for the Afrikadag, "AFREAK", with several artists, performers, and DJs. It's the perfect place to unwind and process all that you experienced during the Afrikadag whilst enjoying delicious African foods and great live music.
The African continent is booming! African countries are developing rapidly and their economies are growing. Due to worldwide economic growth, trade, and technological development African countries are transforming as never before. The middle class is growing and people have more to spend. Yet, the continent has many challenges to overcome. Corruption, war, repression, climate change, and dictatorial leaders are still predominantly present. Nevertheless, the African continent has plenty of beautiful and spectacular things to offer. So stay up-to-date and let the Afrikadag inform you with facts and figures about the developments in the different African countries.
On Saturday the 4th of April, Afrikadag 2020 will once again take place in the beautiful Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam. This year's theme will be "Climate Justice". Afrikadag 2020 is organised by FEPS in cooperation with FMS, and with financial support of the European Parliament.
The Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) is the European progressive political think tank, established as an intellectual crossroad between social democracy and the European project. As a platform for ideas, FEPS works in close collaboration with social democratic organisations, and in particular 50 national foundations and think tanks across Europe, to tackle the challenges that Europe faces today. FEPS is doing a lot of activities, both closed seminars and public debates. The FEPS also publishes a magazine called the Progressive Post.
Annually, the Afrikadag, the biggest event in the Netherlands around Africa and international cooperation, is organised by the Foundation Max van der Stoel (FMS). The foundation strives to uphold the social democratic value of international solidarity within three areas: democracy, development and dialogue. Next to the Africaday, the FMS also organises several public debates and expert panels on changes and development within countries and regions of our interest. In doing so, we work together with civil society, the PvdA as well as the diaspora of the countries in question.
With financial support of the European Parliament.
